Wastewater Treatment Department Update
Week ending March 22, 2019
Work has begun at the Treatment Plant on the upgrades. This week Schultz Excavation started removing the trees on the site that were necessary for the project. They also removed top soil from the various areas on site where needed. Work was also started on making improvements or building different roadways on site to accommodate the great number of trucks that will be bringing in sand and other supplies. By week’s end the Wastewater Plant will have security fence installed with a locking gate, along the 6th street entrance. This is a safety requirement for the construction site, and will affect some of the various visitors that have historically come to the plant. During construction, birdwatching at the plant will no longer be possible. Generally, the RV dump site at the plant will only be accessible during the week from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday, but may not be available if there is construction being done in the immediate area.
We are lowering the levels in the treatment ponds to accommodate the removal of solids in the second pond. By lowering the levels, we are exposing some of the solids in the ponds, and some temporary odor issues may result. We will do our best to keep these episodes to a minimum, however, this is an unavoidable situation. Solids removal is expected to begin as soon as the weight restrictions on local roadways are removed.
