Purpose
Light up the Lake strengthens and reinforces Downtown.
Light up the Lake serves as a "shoulder season" activity in Downtown Ludington.
In
a tourist town like Ludington, winter is a difficult time for many
businesses. This event brings locals back downtown, and draws visitors
from surrounding areas to enjoy what Ludington's downtown has to offer.
It provides an economic boost for downtown businesses
Restaurants, hotels, motels, bars, pubs and shops all prospered from this event in downtown.
By
offering later hours, customer appreciation parties and specials, we
draw people not only to the ball drop, but also to downtown businesses.
This is a unique event to Ludington.
Ludington's Light up the Lake New Year's celebration consists of the
largest, and greenest ball in Michigan! With well over 6000 LED lights,
the Ludington Ball can operate off of 1 standard power outlet.
This large winter street party was the start of a tradition in Ludington in 2010.
